Behind The Big One
My publisher is Grove/Atlantic, one of America’s oldest independent literary houses.
DreamWorks Studios has bought the film rights to the book, and is working with Star Trek and Transformers producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to bring the story to the screen.
Rod manufacturer G. Loomis is helping us promote the book.
The Derby
The tournament’s official site includes history, registration information and more. In September and October, it features up-to-date information about who’s catching fish.
Charter Captains
Sometimes it seems as though every fisherman on the Vineyard runs a charter operation. You can find a lot of them at the Martha's Vineyard Surfcasters Association and The Official Site of Martha's Vineyard.

- Buddy Vanderhoop | Tomahawk Charters
- Jennifer Clarke | Captain Clarke Charters

Tackle Shops
These guys will hook you up with fresh bait, fresh equipment and fresh intelligence. They each have their own stable of charter captains.

Newspapers
The papers of record for Martha’s Vineyard are the Vineyard Gazette, a broadsheet that dates to 1846, and The Martha's Vineyard Times a tabloid that has grown into a worthy competitor since its founding in 1984. Both of them offer extensive coverage of fishing and the derby.
Gazette fisheries writer Mark Alan Lovewell is also a photographer, maritime storyteller and sea chantey singer.
Photographers and Artwork
Dave Skok shot the cover photo for The Big One. Louisa Gould has worked as the official derby photographer and owns a Vineyard Haven art gallery. Ben McCormick creates beautiful fish photos. Buddy Vanderhoop’s wife, Lisa, produces a popular calendar with photographs of Vineyard dogs. Chris Windram, a regular in the island fishing scene, runs a nifty saltwater flyfishing site.

Finally …
A scholarship fund was set up in 2008 at the Permanent Endowment for Martha’s Vineyard in honor of Wendy Jenkinson, whose battle with brain cancer is described in The Big One.
